It’s always difficult to accept that your loved one has a cognitive decline and needs to go to a safe place.  My husband moved to Orchards of Minnetonka Memory Care over a year ago and it has been a phenomenal experience for him and me.  Family and friends are always welcome to visit.  Some family members have brought grandchildren and family pets which are always a hit.  The staff is remarkable.  They are well-trained, caring and compassionate people.  They go out of their way to acknowledge each resident and really know the individual.  They also work well together as a team.  The residents all seem to respond well to them.  It’s interesting to watch the residents’ friendships develop as new people move into ‘The Neighborhood’.  No one is a stranger for long.  The variety of activities engage each resident.  All the residents are encouraged to participate but are not forced to join in. The residents are not isolated from the rest of the Orchards community, but are encouraged to participate in events like concerts, etc., and the outings into the larger community are well thought out and well staffed.  The nursing staff knows the residents and keeps me informed about any changes or concerns for my husband’s overall  health.  The Wellness Program is well thought out and works closely with outside physical therapy which definitely seems to have benefited my husband.  I definitely feel fortunate he is there!

As a visiting therapeutic musician in the Dimensions Program and a teaching artist in Independent Living, I have always experienced a strong sense of community and joy at Orchards of Minnetonka.  Programs are designed creatively with clear intentionality and operations are extremely well-managed, yet there is a lovely sense of ease and improvisational flow in the air.  I have always left the building with a bigger smile on my face than when I entered.  

Prior to moving to Orchards of Minnetonka, I was living in a large home (that my late wife and I built).  In the evenings, I would come back to an empty house, and it was incredibly lonely.  My daughter suggested I look at a place that would offer more opportunities for daily socialization.  After touring Orchards of Minnetonka, it was evident that there would always be something to do around here.  It has been seven months since I moved in, and I am blown away at the incredible environment that has been created by the staff and the residents.  There is always something to do here at Orchards.  From exercise classes, to card games, to religious services of all denominations, to outings and more, the staff at Orchards make sure your days are filled with engaging and educational experiences.  When you walk in the doors, every single staff member knows your name and happily greets you with a kind and happy smile.  Living at Orchards of Minnetonka has become not only a place to call home, but also a place where I feel welcome and loved.  I am certain you will too!
